The PADI Divemaster course is the first step to becoming a diving professional. Whether you are looking for a career change or want to use your diving experience to help others entering the sport. This is where it starts!
The PADI Divemaster holds an important role within every dive operation. As a Divemaster you support the instructor during courses. Assist in maintaining control, supervision and safety. Assist with the logistics involved with running courses and provide a role model for the students you come in contact with, helping to create good and responsible divers of the future.

About The Diving Academy PADI Divemaster Internship
Although the PADI Divemaster course is the most widely accepted pro-level training program in the world, without real world application and the right people to advise you, your training will be rather conventional in a consistently unconventional industry. Theory and skill training are just a small part of the transition from recreational diver to professional diver.
Throughout the internship you will gain experience in all aspects of operating a dive business including sales, course booking & management, equipment maintenance, trip bookings & management, logistics, filling tanks, and of course, diving. As a part of our team, you will learn to work in different environments, build your CV, market yourself in the industry, and develop additional skills such as photography and/or videography. You will be taught to the same standards that we hold our own Team to in our everyday operations.
Whatever your diving proficiency when you arrive, we will work with you to perfect it to Diving Academy level standards. We don’t mean just the skills outlined in the PADI curriculum. Diving should become second nature, so natural in fact, that you can anticipate, respond, and fix problems before they even happen. We have a buoyancy workshop designed for technical divers, but geared towards professional candidates to fine tune buoyancy. Our pool is perfect for polishing skills until they are performance quality, and our dive sites are varied to give you experience leading different types of dives in various conditions. After every dive, you will have a follow-up with the mentor to discuss what to improve upon for the next dive, and how to anticipate scenarios. You won’t be a student, nor a shop slave, but a team member in training with our family.

To earn your PADI Divemaster rating, you will complete a series of knowledge development sessions, water skill workshops and hands-on assessments:
- The role and characteristics of the PADI Divemaster
- Supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers
- Scuba diver safety and risk management
- Divemaster conducted programs and specialized skills
- Business of diving and your career
- Awareness of the dive environment
- Scuba gear setup and management
- Mapping an open water site
- Conducting dive briefings
- Organizing a search and recovery project and a deep dive
- Conducting PADI ReActivate scuba refresher and skin diver course
- Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs

Prerequisites
The PADI Divemaster Course Prerequisites:
- Certified PADI Rescue Diver
- EFR Primary / Secondary Care within 24 months
- Minimum 18 yrs of age
- Have a minimum of 40 dives to start, 60 dives for completion
Course Medical Requirements:
Under the Diving at Work Regulations 1997, all divers at work must have a valid certificate of HSE fitness to dive issued by an Approved Medical Examiner of Divers (AMED), please Contact Us for more information.

Step 1 – PADI eLearning
PADI eLearning makes it easy to fit scuba lessons into a busy schedule. Complete the independent study part of your course whenever, wherever it’s convenient for you.
Work at your own pace, online or offline, using a computer or mobile device. Connect with your instructor for inwater training, or whenever you have a question.
- eLearning time commitment: 10-16 hours
Step 2 – With Your Instructor
Gain practical experience giving dive briefings, assisting with classes and leading underwater tours. Learn how to anticipate problems and provide assistance, create an Emergency Assistance Plan and improve your navigation and problem-solving skills through practical workshops.

The cost of your internship will be calculated based on your own bespoke training plan, once this has been designed the team will design a custom commitment and payment plan.
By making a time commitment to the Diving Academy we are able accredit these hours towards your internship costs.

- Equipment Hire*
*We recommend all candidates have their own equipment as familiarity with equipment will help you be more effective during your training. If required however, we hire equipment at a rate of £250 for the duration of your Divemaster training. Please note – It is a PADI standard that all certified Dive Professionals (Divemaster & above) are expected to own all their own equipment by the time they qualify.
